The absence
of specific regulations for organic cosmetics and the growing number of
brands advertising themselves as 'green cosmetics’ eventually raised the
question of how to implement ethical guidelines capable of laying the
foundation of true ecological values for supporting the development of
organic farming and guaranteeing cosmetics are safe for consumers and
eco-friendly.
COSMEBIO
was born in 2002 from a partnership between ten cosmetic laboratories
committed to establishing a Charter for the foundation of an ecological
and natural cosmetics industry using ingredients produced by organic
farming. Now become indispensable and without derogating from the
general regulations, organic cosmetic is now part of the panorama of
cosmetics. It is itself the sign of a profound change of mentality, an
expectation of renewed naturalness, transparency, security and accuracy.
COSMEBIO
is the leading ecological and organic cosmetics professional
association. It brings together all of the players in the cosmetic
industry and currently represents more than 350 members in France and
abroad. These members include cosmetic laboratories, distributors,
contract manufacturers and raw material suppliers.
The Principles
Charter COSMEBIO
is simple and straightforward, really eco-friendly and in line with
organic farming because it is respectful of the earth and men. The
founding principles of the Charter are:
- Provide finished products containing natural ingredients or natural origin primarily from Organic Farming.
- Exclude the raw materials and the Conservatives controversial issues environmental or health.
- Ensure transformation processes and clean production.
- Guarantee products controlled by independent certification body on the basis of specifications recognized.
- Inform consumers clearly and objectively.
Dynamic management of quality
A
specification is a living document that can be updated and improved
constantly according to the advancement of knowledge, the development of
technological capabilities and general regulations. It is in this
context that national specifications evolve to take advantage of
advanced data reflections on the specifications harmonized at European
level, the COSMEBIO repository.
